Hebrews 12:29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

“Onward Kokomo, Onward Kokomo, dear old red and blue! We your sons and daughters love you, our loyalty is true! Rah!! Rah!! Rah!!” Wake up Adam, you're writing a devotional here. Well friends, here we are in basketball season, and in Indiana that is something to be reckoned for. If you do not believe me, go check out the movie “Hoosiers” and you can get a glimpse of the “Fever” that lurks here in Indiana. What is exciting to me is that here in a few weeks, the Kokomo Wildkats, (yes, we spell it with a “k” at my alma mater of 1992) are going to play in the BIG game against the Marion Giants. You see, they are rivals, and since they are rivals it is one of those games where it doesn’t matter if this is the only the game we win all year, as long as we beat Marion. Bragging rights are always better than a losing season any day.


With the BIG game coming, there is always a pep-rally in the school gym that Friday afternoon. You can almost count on it. Tradition almost demands it happen. The students will be asked to wear their school colors. The cheerleaders, the players, coaches, and the school band will all be invited. Most assuredly, you can count on the school song being played numerous times, and the cheer, “Let’s get fired up” ringing throughout the entire gym. I have heard that is it so loud that you can hear it down the block. It has been a number of years since I have had the opportunity to be at the Kokomo vs. Marion game, but I sure do remember it well.


As I was writing my “bio” for the restart of TDDM, I could not help but notice that I have been a part of TDDM in one way or another for over 10 years. It is absolutely amazing! So, when I see that we are going to get TDDM “fired-up” again, I cannot help but think, “Let’s get fired up!” As well as this verse. God is a consuming fire. As followers God, we should want to know everything that we can about Him. We often study about His love, joy, peace, hope and the mercy that He has given us. We are called to realize, that on this earth we will never fully understand God, which is so cool! Yet, we forget to understand God is justice, and a consuming fire. If we are to be completely honest to God, we cannot disregard this side of his nature. When I think of God being a consuming fire, I think about how He hates sin, and yet He loves me so much that He wants to consume that sin in my life. He wants to help me to be the best I can be for Him making me in His image. So, with the coming of the Sunday Special Requests, I want that to be our goal. “Let’s get fired up!” It will be my goal once again to take the questions that you have about anything and to answer them to the best of my ability with God’s Word. I pray that we can answer them knowing who God is and what He wants for our lives!


Finally, I have a challenge for you! Won’t you join me in “getting fired-up” over TDDM and the things that God has in store for her? Won’t you join me by inviting others to hear the message of God’s truth on a daily basis that TDDM will offer? How about also sending me questions to answer for the Sunday Special Request? Now, you ready for the big one? Won’t you join me in “getting fired up” over TDDM by praying for TDDM? Yes, there are a lot of specific things to pray about concerning TDDM, but ultimately won’t you pray? May God’s fire consume you today!
