God Speed
Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God. Luke 16:15 NLT
I looked down at my watch and the Mission Impossible theme music started playing in my head. I put the pedal to the metal as I turned onto the highway. I was focused, I was determined, I was speeding. I couldn’t be late for work again.
All was going well and I was making up good time until I turned the final corner. I could see my destination straight ahead! I could see the store front! I could see the sign! I could see.....the cop! I quickly slammed on my breaks, checked my seat belt, and pretended like I was driving 45 miles an hour the whole time. With a smile on my face, both hands on the steering wheel, and my eyes straight ahead, I slowly drove on by. Lucky for me, he was reading a newspaper and eating a donut. Classic!
I knew speeding was illegal and I knew I wasn’t obeying the laws of the land as the Bible states us to do. Even though I may have pulled one over on a cop who was not paying attention, there is still one person we can’t fool. God sees us for who we are, not only our actions but He knows our intentions. He is the only one we can’t go behind closed doors, trick, or fool. When all is said in done, God is the only one that matters and He sees everything. Is there anything you can think of that you would be embarrassed or ashamed about if everyone knew? I think I’ll be slowing down now, what about you?
